Toronto-based producer Āthmaan has returned to drop ‘The Vital Breath’, his debut album as a solo artist which follows up a slew of instrumental EPs, as well as his most celebrated work to date; ‘Midnight Oil’ with New York rapper Sunmundi. ‘The Vital Breath’ is a vibrant celebration of Āthmaan’s Indian heritage, exclusively sampling Bollywood songs, a genre attached to his upbringing. The album’s title itself is a nod to one of three meanings of his stage name (making this the first album of a trilogy). Āthmaan assembled a group of friends and peers who carry on and compliment the colourful spirit of his production with their verses, often meshing optimistic outlooks in their day-to-day with references to Indian culture. Every track on ‘The Vital Breath’ captures the beautiful essence of life thanks to Āthmaan’s ability to craft serenely hypnotic instrumentals that’ll move the body and soul.
